I am contacting you in anticipation of the next RMMLA (Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association) conference, which will take place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from October 4-6, 2007. The RMMLA is a regional subsidiary of the MLA (Modern Language Association). Every year, this conference features several panels on modern Chinese and Japanese literature, language, culture and film. This year's program will include two panels on modern Chinese literature. The first will be a double panel entitled "Chinese Literature and Film Since 1900." All topics and areas of inquiry are welcome. Please submit your abstract to gschneid@fas.harvard.edu no later than March 1, 2007. Final selection of abstracts will be made by March 15, 2007.
The second panel is entitled "Late Qing and Republican Chinese Literature and Thought." This will be a "special topics" panel and it will feature papers that focus more precisely on this particular time period in Chinese literary and cultural history. All disciplines as well as comparative and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome! Again, please submit your paper proposal to gschneid@fas.harvard.edu between now and the end of February, and most definitely before March 1, 2007.
