Special Issue on Gao Xingjian
Modern Chinese Literature and Culture

Modern Chinese Literature and Culture is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for a special issue on Gao Xingjian, the recent Nobel laureate and the first Chinese writer to win the coveted prize. Scholarship on Gao's work is slim, and there is a great lacuna that desperately needs filling. Part of the journal's mission is to make modern Chinese literature known to those outside the narrow confines of our field, and we see this as the perfect opportunity to do just that.

The journal will accept papers on any aspect of Gao's drama, fiction, literary criticism, or painting. Authors may wish to pursue, but are by no means limited to, such issues as the nature of exile literature and Gao's position as a "global" or "diaspora" writer, Gao's place within the Chinese literary context, the use of tradition in his writings, analyses of his plays in relation to current theories of performance, the cross-cultural implications of performance of his plays in the West, etc. Translations of previously published essays in Chinese will also be considered.

For information on submission format, consult the MCLC website (http://deall.ohio-state.edu/denton.2/mclc.htm). Electronic submissions are acceptable (in MS Word format ONLY).
